Executive Briefings - The New Reality of Bushfire Management

During March, 2007 a series of Fire Knowledge Network Executive Briefings were held in Brisbane, Hobart and Adelaide.
Jerry WilliamsTitled "The New Reality of Bushfire Management" the briefings were presented by Jerry Williams, Brookings Institution, USA. Jerry was in Australia as keynote speaker at the National Bushfire Forum held in Canberra on 27 February, 2007 - "Are Big Fires Inevitable?". The visit provided the opportunity for Jerry to present to a wider audience of policy makers and senior bureaucrats, planners and managers on the mega-fire issue.
At the briefings Jerry spoke about how the USDA Forest Service is attempting to deal with the mega-fire phenomenon, the issues it faces and what Australia can learn from the experience. The presentation challenged those responsible for the management of fire and land in Australia to align their practices, laws and policies to the new reality.
