Project Vesta Workshops - Tasmania
Fuel assessment and fire behaviour prediction training has been carried out with fire and land management agencies across Australia in recent months under the roll out of Project Vesta.
The Project Vesta fire behaviour prediction system was released to partner agencies in November 2007 and is currently in a phase of research adoption to end-users, and the validation in different forest types across several states.
At the May meeting of the AFAC Rural Land Managers Group it was agreed that a series of workshops would be conducted with potential end-user agencies to demonstrate practical application of the Project Vesta Field Guide for Fuel Assessment and Fire Behaviour Prediction.
Between July and October Bushfire CRC researchers Jim Gould (CSIRO Forest Biosciences) and Lachie McCaw (Department of Environment and Conservation Western Australia) have conducted 13 one-day workshops in five state/territory jurisdictions working directly with more than 500 career, agency and volunteer personnel.
