Savanna Burning Day

Savanna Burning Day

Tropical savanna burning research was on show in September as part of the annual conference.

Participants at the Bushfire CRC/AFAC annual conference were given the opportunity to see Top End science in action with a series of field trips to research sites.

More 70 people attended to field days after the main conference program ended with visits to the Territory Wildlife Park, Litchfield National Park, and the Adelaide River Wetlands.

Bushfires CRC and CSIRO researchers showed their experimental fire plots at the Territory Wildlife Park to around 25 conference participants. Lead researchers Dr Alan Anderson and his colleagues explained how the experiment focused on the effects of fire frequency and intensity on biological and ecological processes. The fire plots were established in 2003, at the start of the Bushfire CRC.

This research formed part of Project B3.2, Prescribed Fire and Biodiversity in Tropical Savannas.
